THE NEW WAY TO TEACH AND LEARN

THE BACKGROUND

The Next-Gen WileyPLUS experience design

The ambition for the Next-Gen WileyPLUS vision was tremendous. The vision considered the cultural change brought by rapid advancement in technology we see in the young generation of students today. Student users frequently interact with premium services that are easily made accessible today them; G Suite, Dropbox, Google Search, along with social and game apps. Rapid engagement, interactivity, social, and pure fun is something users expect as fundamental.

On the other side of the coin is the instructors’ experience that must support the complex workflows of managing multiple student users, grading tools, course designing, etc.

Improving the rate of student onboarding

A great product begins with an experience that welcomes users in a way that is effortless and engaging. If a sense of confusion and anxiety is caused at this phase of the workflow, the product could lose users for good. Through intensive research and sessions with existing and new users, a new roadmap for the onboarding process was designed, tested, and developed.

The outcome of the new design helped increased new user onboarding by a significant amount, with many expressing a sense of joy and excitement. The onboarding process is innovative, smart, direct, and easy, all the while empowering the Platform to gather as many necessary data about the user as possible.

An ambiguous past onboarding process

The previous onboarding process was initiated by an obscure workflow, lead by inconsistent terminologies and calls to actions. It wasn't immediately clear to the users how to begin to enroll in the system. Furthermore, the user was stuck from being able to continue onto the workflow if no perfect name match was found using the school name; the user was confronted with a dead end. This led to a vast quantity of help unnecessary help calls. Finally, the user was unable to perform a basic sign up process without finding the right course, which made it impossible for the system to reach back out to lost users.

A clever solution with a clear call to action

Through research, it was identified that various datasets could be used to locate a course. The new design enhancements provide quick, interactive, and engaging ways users can look up a course through multiple alternatives, thus never allowing them to get lost. The course confirmation step also displayed all the necessary data to ensure the users know exactly the right course (right instructor and right time) they wish to enroll. Additionally, the users' account creation was completed at the beginning of the process so that if the users got lost, the system was able to track each student and reach out for further help, therefore locking them into the Platform.

Empowering students to enroll to course any time anywhere

Understanding the student users’ workflow on and offline, it became a paramount requirement that they be able to complete the onboarding process during a commute or even during breaks between classes. Therefore, the mobile onboarding process needed to be comprehensive, easily accessible, and effective.

A quick step-by-step process that doesn't overwhelm the users

Each step of the workflow was meticulously designed and crafted so that the system is able to gather as much information as possible by the users to proceed, without overwhelming them. The system provides positive reinforcement and feedback, generating a sense of gamification.

A beautifullypowerful tool

The Next-Gen WileyPLUS is the perfect learning companion Platform that empowers students and instructors and brings them closer.
